Planetary combination or the mutual clustering of planets is referred as Yoga in Vedic astrology. The effects of individual planets are greatly intensified when they are involved in yogas with other planets. The mutual relation of the planets is the backbone of astrology. More than 500 Vedic Yogas have been recognised in Vedic Astrology.
The effects of Vedic Yogas are either good or not so good. This depends on the role of the planets involved in the yoga for the particular chart, as well as the strength of the planets.
Famous and well known yogas are the ones involving Lagna Lord, Sun and Moon in the horoscope. The yogas that involve the benefic planets for give rise to auspicious results. For example, the yogas that involve the trikona or the trine lords, are generally considered highly auspicious. first, fifth and ninth lords are the trine lords.
Likewise, when trine lords connect with quadrant or the kendra lords, they give rise to famous Raj Yoga. For instance, the fifth lord and the fourth lord produce a fine raj yoga which manifest great results for the fourth and the fifth house of the horoscope.
1. Conjunction, also known as Yuti, is the sitting together of two or more planets in a house. It is one form of Vedic yoga. In the horocope below, the 8th house of has clustering of 4 planets - Venus, Sun, Jupiter and Saturn forming a Vedic Yoga. Similarly Mercury and Mars are conjoint in the ninth house to form another Vedic Yoga.
2. Mutual Aspect, when two planets aspect each other, it connects them strongly making them capable of giving results of each other's houses. In the example horoscope below, Saturn and Venus are muually aspecting each other from fifth and eleventh house respectively, connecting the two houses.
3. Exchange of Planets creates another strong Vedic yoga. When two planets sit in the sign lorded by each other, it creates exchange yoga. For instance, Jupiter in Virgo and Mercury in Sagittarius create exchange yoga betwen Jupiter and Mercury. Please note that Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and Mercury is the owner of Virgo sign. The two planets are sitting in each other signs. In the above example horoscope, Venus is in the Pisces sign ruled by Jupiter in eleventh house and Jupiter is in Taurus sign of Venus in the lagna, giving rise to Parivartan or Exchange Yoga of Lagna and eleventh house.
